Miami Beach Disability Awareness Day
Several events and activities will focus on the physical, social and spiritual well-being as well as the health of the disabled community as part of a national effort to increase awareness about disabilities.
9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Disability Simulation Exercises
Miami Beach City Hall, Commission Chambers
Approx 15 - 20 Miami Beach employees will participate in every day tasks and their jobs by taking on a disability (ie. blind, deaf, one-arm, wheelchair, etc.) alongside committee members and/or disabled partners. Interviews with participants and partners will be available as well as following participants with their disability at their workstations.
12:30 p.m.: Ribbon-cutting & Demonstration of Audible Pedestrian Warning Devices @ Crosswalks
SW corner of Lincoln Road & Washington Avenue
These devices will be installed at several Miami Beach intersections as part of a one-year pilot program.
1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.: Disability Expo & Art Exhibition (Free & open to the public)
Miami Beach Community Church, 1620 Drexel Avenue (Lincoln Road)
Showcases businesses and organizations that work with the disabled community. Exhibit features the works of those with disabilities.
2:00 p.m.: Taping of TV Show “Cooking without Looking” (Free & open to the public)
Lincoln Road & Euclid
4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: Live Entertainment (Free & open to the public)
